Maria Morganti has placed colour at the centre of a rigorous and sustained daily ritual. Each day in her Venetian studio, she adds a new colour to the paint remaining from the previous day and applies it to the Quadro infinito, a continuously evolving painting begun in 2006, as well as to her Diario and Sedimentazione series. Initiated in 2003, these projects function as chromatic diaries in which time itself becomes the primary material. The dimensions of the works correspond to four measures of the human body: hand, face, torso, and full figure. Morganti’s practice is deeply rooted in the Venetian colourist tradition, a context she has inhabited since 1992. Her first major retrospective was presented by GAM Turin in 2024–25. Her works are held in international public and private collections. She lives and works in Venice.
