Nico Vascellari’s practice moves fluidly across performance, sound, sculpture, installation, video and drawing, drawing equally on cultural anthropology and the underground music scene in which he operates as a punk musician. References to ritual, folklore and the archaic world intertwine with a more contemporary visual register, producing a singular language in which destruction and construction, individual and collective, are held in continuous tension. Since 2005 he has run Codalunga, an experimental space in his Vittorio Veneto studio that has hosted artists, musicians and performers from around the world.

He came to broader attention with the performance A Great Circle (2005) and won the Prize for Young Italian Art at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. He has presented solo exhibitions at MAXXI in Rome, the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, the Estorick Collection in London, Villa Medici in Rome and Forte Belvedere in Florence, and has participated in Manifesta 7. He lives and works between Vittorio Veneto and Rome.
