Matteo Fato’s painting investigates the continuous relationship between object and image, seeking the reflective knot that binds the artwork to reality while reversing the traditional relationship between appearance and nature: it is not art that imitates Nature, but rather the world itself that is subjected to painting. His practice extends to sculpture, video, printmaking, and installation. His distinctions include the Level 0 Prize – ArtVerona (2013), the Città di Treviglio Prize (2012), the Cramum Prize (2016), and the Ermanno Casoli Prize. Selected exhibitions include Eresia (del) Florilegio at the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, Palazzo Ducale, Urbino (2018); solo exhibitions at Monitor, Rome; (SECRéTA) at TRA Treviso Ricerca Arte (2015); and OPEN20 at Mostyn, Wales (2017). He teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino and lives and works in Pescara.
