Dan Gunn’s practice simultaneously occupies the territories of sculpture and painting, focusing on the folklore and aesthetics of the American Midwest. Carved wooden draperies containing embedded landscapes, paper collages, and ceramic sculptures investigate the divisions between urban, suburban, and rural environments, as well as the psychological and mythological implications of landscape in the construction of regional identity. He has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Elmhurst Art Museum, and Monique Meloche Gallery. In 2013, he received the Artadia/EXPO Chicago Award. He earned an MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007, where he also teaches. He lives and works in Connecticut.
