Renzo Marasca developed his painting practice independently following an early training as a conservator. Abandoning an academic path, he pursued his research through years of artistic nomadism across Berlin, Barcelona, and London before eventually settling in Lisbon, a city whose southern light, in his words, “almost erases the image, removing centre and periphery from the picture”. Working with fragile materials such as tissue paper, unstretched canvas, and delicate hand-shaped iron wire, he has undertaken residencies at Piramidón Centre d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona and LA54 in Berlin. Among his awards are the ORA Prize (Venice, 2013), the Celeste Prize (Milan, 2009), and the Morlotti Prize (Milan, 2004). Selected exhibitions include From Night to Dawn at Galeria Belo Galsterer, Lisbon (2019), Tenere il punto at TOMAV, Moresco (2019), and Allegria at Galeria Foco, Lisbon (2018). His work is held in public collections including the Embassy of Italy in San Marino and the Italian Art Museum in Benghazi. He collaborates with the studio of Pier Paolo Calzolari and lives and works in Lisbon.
