Jimmy Milani’s practice centres on painting and its expanded conditions, where iconic subjects, narrative impulse and the materiality of the support interact across the two-dimensional surface of the canvas and the three-dimensional structure of the work. His paintings are shaped by a productive conflict between rationality and intuition: a rigorous compositional planning meets an opposite drive to embrace change and the unexpected. Subjects and figures emerge from defined surfaces in flat colour and clean contour, in dialogue with the painting tradition — from Lucio Fontana’s teatrini to the second-generation work of Salvo — yet held at a distance from any nostalgia.

He earned an MFA in Painting (2019) and a BFA in Painting (2017) at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. He has worked with institutions and residency programmes including Cripta, Villa Vertua Masolo, Fondazione Lac o Le Mon, Yellow and Fondazione Pini in Milan, and has held solo presentations at Studiolo and ArtNoble Gallery. He lives and works between San Miniato, in Tuscany, and Milan.
