Nana Wolke’s research centres on the representation of the female body and its historical and political codifications. Through the series Equus Feminus (Women with Horse Head), she develops a hybrid figure that overturns the iconography of the Minotaur and reinterprets the classical Venus—an emblem of fertility, erotic beauty, and desire—as a site of tension between assigned femininity and bodily agency. Her work examines the position of the female body as it oscillates between public and private spheres, between object of desire and political subject. She earned a BFA with honours from the Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana, completed part of her studies at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts, and received an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. She lives and works in London.
