Francesco Bertocco is a visual artist and filmmaker whose research investigates documentary language as an experimental and formally complex medium. His work increasingly focuses on the intersection of scientific imagination and medical practice, examining sites of scientific research as complex systems while exploring the broader implications of scientific and medical knowledge beyond the institutions in which it is produced. His work has been presented at major Italian and international institutions, including PAC and Museo del Novecento in Milan, MAMbo in Bologna, Villa Romana in Florence, Centro Pecci in Prato, Fondazione Merz in Turin, OCAT in Shanghai, Kunsthalle Winterthur, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Santiago de Chile. He has also participated in international film festivals such as Visions du Réel in Nyon and Lo Schermo dell’Arte in Florence. He graduated in Modern Literature from the University of Milan in 2009 and in Film and Video from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 2011. He lives and works in Milan.
