Jonathan Monk reinterprets, revisits, and re-examines seminal works of Conceptual and Minimal Art through witty, ingenious, and irreverent means. Through a systematic process of appropriation and citation—drawing on figures such as Sol LeWitt, Ed Ruscha, Bruce Nauman, and Lawrence Weiner—he questions the values and conventions of the art system, liberating works from their original functions and granting them new stylistic and conceptual evolutions. He has exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Whitney Biennial (2006), the 50th and 53rd Venice Biennales (2003 and 2009), and the Berlin Biennale (2001). He lives and works in Berlin.
