Lorenzo De Angelis’s painting is the antithesis of description and narrative. His practice investigates the language of painting through its possibilities for spatial division and structuring, beginning with the minimal presence of a gesture on a surface. Constructed from the most basic and reduced elements of the medium, his images originate from the application of physical and philosophical concepts to painting, pursuing a metaphysical dimension that departs from scientific certainty. Emptiness, the point of departure, remains central at the conclusion of the process: it becomes space, and therefore image. His works are held in private collections in Italy, the United States, Portugal, Denmark, and Germany. He lives and works in Vitorchiano, in the province of Viterbo.
