Francesca Grilli’s practice spans performance, video, and installation, focusing on the intensity of action and on sound as a privileged medium for communicating with both the personal and collective unconscious. Her work has been exhibited at international institutions including MAXXI Rome (2016 and 2024), the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (2015–2017), Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2017), the Serralves Foundation in Porto (2017), Serpentine Gallery in London (2009), MAMbo Bologna (2010), and Manifesta 7 in Bolzano (2008). She participated in the Italian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 and has been featured in numerous international performance festivals, including Centrale Fies, Romaeuropa Festival, Homo Novus in Riga, Baltic Circle in Helsinki, and the SAAL Biennial in Tallinn. From 2017 to 2019, she was an associate artist of Santarcangelo Festival. In 2016, she received the New York Prize. Following her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, she earned a postgraduate degree from ISIA Urbino and attended the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She lives and works between Bologna and Brussels.
