Alessandro Calabrese’s photographic research focuses on photography itself as an object of investigation—its limits, possibilities, and productive errors—rather than on the subjects it depicts. After graduating in Architecture from IUAV Venice, he earned a Master’s degree in Photography and Visual Design at NABA Milan in 2012. He then moved to Amsterdam to work as assistant to photographer Hans van der Meer and at Paradox, where he developed an interest in photographic publishing that led to his first book, Thoreau (Skinnerboox, 2014). In 2015, he was selected by Foam among the twenty-one most promising emerging photographers worldwide. He has exhibited at MACRO Rome, MAXXI, Triennale Milano, MART Rovereto, and Palazzo Reale. He won the Graziadei Prize in 2016 and the Francesco Fabbri Prize. He teaches at NABA Milan and Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and lives and works in Milan.
