Niccolò Moronato’s interdisciplinary practice — informed by their training in languages, business and economic theory — works through video, language, food, soundscapes, public broadcasts, drawing and collage to expose the contradictions of mental and bodily life under late capitalism. Order, landscape, identity, public space, tradition and progress are interrogated as concepts that colonise the body and the imagination; appropriating material from historical archives and contemporary media, Moronato re-positions established perspectives to reveal the intrinsically forceful elements that constitute “normality”, opening them up for play and collective re-discussion. Their works often intervene in semi-public spaces — porter’s lodges, waiting rooms, phonebooths, archaeological sites — where they probe the boundaries of social norms and the relationship between history and the contemporary.

Having begun an art practice in 2016 after working in consumer research, international organisations, big tech and fashion, Moronato has trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and since 2015 has taught Language Design at Politecnico di Milano. Recent projects include *Leisure* at Macellum di Pozzuoli (2022), *The Star Survey* at Gasworks in London, *Firmament* at the Royal College of Art in London (2019) and presentations at Madre in Naples, Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como, Fondazione Spinola Banna and Pastificio Cerere in Rome. Awards include the NCTM e l’Arte grant (2024) and an Italian Council Artist Research Grant (2023). Moronato lives and works between Chioggia and Chicago.
