Nicola Villa’s painting revolves around humanity and the human condition, depicting metropolitan landscapes and portraits of figures encountered in real places whose identities remain concealed behind their faces and gestures, creating an atmosphere of subtle and elusive unease. Alongside painting, he works in etching and aquatint printmaking, photography, and video installation. In 2007, he undertook the Harlem Studio Fellowship residency in New York and won the Celeste Prize in the Painting category. Solo exhibitions include Republique at Chris Boicos Fine Arts, Paris (2019); Short-time Memories at Nuova Galleria Morone, Milan (2016); L’incognita dell’approdo at Spazio Lomellini 17, Genoa (2016); and Controluce at Chris Boicos Fine Art, Paris (2015). He graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 2004 and lives and works in Genoa.
