Kellie Romany’s abstract painting investigates corporeality, materiality, and the history of the painterly process through a palette of skin tones. Pigments and oils expand, merge, coagulate, and crack, while forms become metaphors for the body as a permeable and constantly transforming entity. Her work opens discussions around human connection, femininity, race, and the systems that shape these themes. She has exhibited at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the DePaul Art Museum in Chicago, the Harlem School of the Arts in New York, Alice Yard in Trinidad and Tobago, Amel Bourouina Gallery in Berlin, and fiebach, minninger in Cologne. She earned an MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011 and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008. She lives and works in Chicago.
