Simone Berti’s practice encompasses painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture, and performance in a reflection on the precariousness, instability, and uncertainty that characterise lived reality: bodies supported by prostheses and scaffolding, machines functioning without purpose, and fragile systems of assembly. In recent years, his research has increasingly turned towards trees and nature, adopting a serenely hybrid material language. He participated in Fare Mondi / Making Worlds, the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009); Egofugal, the 7th Istanbul Biennial (2001); Manifesta 3, Ljubljana (2000); Italics at MOCA Chicago and Palazzo Grassi, Venice; and Examining Pictures at Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, and MOCA Chicago. He has exhibited at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice; Galleria Continua, Beijing; and MACRO Rome. From 1998 to 2008, he worked with Galleria Massimo De Carlo. He studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Kingston University London, and Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como under Joseph Kosuth. He lives and works between Berlin and Milan.
