Francesco João’s painting embraces the ambivalence of the medium itself, foregrounding the tension between immediacy and excessive complexity. Existing within a cycle of continual reconfiguration, his work asserts its material presence through both historical legitimacy and confrontation with rapidly circulating digital imagery. Born in Milan to an Indigenous Brazilian mother and a Milanese father, and raised between Italy and frequent stays in the Amazon, João studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts before relocating to São Paulo. His exhibitions include BRAZIL.
