Antonio Catelani’s practice has, since the mid-1980s, examined the normative processes of sculpture and painting through a language informed by architecture. His works compress surfaces towards a privileged frontal viewpoint, while colour settles as the memory of an almost collapsed form. He participated in the 43rd Venice Biennale in 1988 and in the Rome Quadriennale in 1996 and 2008. His work has been presented at institutions including PAC Milan, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, Museo Pecci in Prato, MUMOK Vienna, Berlinische Galerie/Martin-Gropius-Bau, and MoCA Shanghai. His works are held in public collections including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, MUMOK Vienna, and MAMbo Bologna. In 1995–96 he was awarded a fellowship at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 1985 and lives and works in Milan.
