Walter Davanzo’s painting evolved from an initial abstract and informal phase towards a gestural, free, and deliberately naïve figuration characterised by a grotesque imagination suspended between dream and reality. His imagery draws heavily upon childhood memories and is informed by a longstanding interest in German Expressionism, both in painting and cinema. His works are held in museums and private collections, while documentation of his practice is preserved in the archives of ASAC at the Venice Biennale and the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst Bibliothek in Aachen. He is included in the publication La Pittura nel Veneto, il Novecento (Electa, Milan, 2010). He studied at DAMS in Bologna and lives and works in Treviso.
