Linda Carrara’s practice unfolds as a sustained reflection on the conceptual and mimetic dynamics of painting, in which representational ends are deliberately set aside in favour of a freer pictorial language capable of generating wholly new visual relationships. Working through layered surfaces — pictorial planes that differ in time, light, material and visual logic — she constructs apparently coherent worlds that reveal themselves, on closer encounter, as abstractions of gesture, trace and pictorial experience. The early frottage works preserved the material trace of beloved sites and objects without offering any direct representation of them; more recent paintings have shifted towards a vitalist register in which matter and pictorial action become the work’s focal core.

She graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan in 2006 and completed a Master in Multimedia Arts at the KASK – Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (2014–2015), where she was an assistant to Michaël Borremans. She was a finalist for the Premio Cairo in 2013 and 2022, won the Premio Terna – Pittura in 2014 and the Premio Casarini Due Torri at ArtVerona in 2023. Her work has been presented at Triennale Milano, Fondazione ICA in Milan, Palazzo Reale in Milan, Boccanera Gallery in Milan and Trento, MAC Lissone, Centrul de Interes in Cluj-Napoca, the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, Iragui in Moscow and Public Service Gallery in Stockholm. She lives and works between Milan and Brussels.
