Andrea Contin’s practice combines video, installation, performance, objects and drawing in a register that he has described as one of conceptual synthesis, where artistic research is sustained alongside teaching, critical writing and social engagement. His work tends towards subtraction, treating the image as a distilled trace of inner energies — of the psyche, of fire, of the body in tension. Performances such as *Flame (chains)* expose the movement of these forces as they emerge from the everyday, while drawings and installations probe the relationship between the self that represents and the self represented, drawing on his parallel training in psychology to examine how the imaginary becomes form.
He graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Padua. Alongside his artistic work he writes criticism, teaches and collaborates with projects engaging mental health and the social dimensions of art, including a long-standing relationship with Wurmkos. His work has been shown at Galleria Bianconi in Milan, Galleria Placentia Arte in Piacenza, Forte Carpenedo in Mestre, Spazio Maks in Genoa and within institutional and independent contexts in Italy and abroad. He lives and works in Padua.
