Andrea Kvas’s practice combines a playful, instinctive approach to painting with a sustained analysis and reconsideration of the codes that define the discipline. Rather than producing paintings in the conventional sense, he treats painting as a question of materials and processes, working with industrial substances drawn from construction, decoration and restoration — acrylics, water-based paints, resins, copper sulphate, latex, silicone, asphalt, shellac — to test the limits and the latent potential of the pictorial language. Unexpected chemical reactions, accidental abstractions and the slow stratification of pigments over time produce works that frequently expand into sculptural, relational and curatorial territories. The figure of the palette — the place where colour is mixed and discharged — becomes a structural concept rather than an accessory: the painting and its making are held together in a single, continuous space.
