Mario Airò’s work emerges from what the artist himself describes as a form of “wandering”: the experience of moving through the world and speaking through the things one encounters, resisting any fixed intellectual or formal framework. His installations—composed of objects, images, texts, sounds, and sources of light—transform exhibition spaces into immersive mental environments capable of evoking a life dreamt rather than lived. Drawing upon references ranging from literature and cinema to art history and everyday experience, Airò creates unexpected networks of associations. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1997 and 2003, the Gwangju Biennale in 2004, and the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2005. Selected solo exhibitions include Twister at Fondazione Stelline, Milan (2009), and Il mondo dei fanciulli ridenti at Vistamarestudio, Milan (2019). He studied in Milan, where during the early 1990s he was among the artists animating the independent space in Via Lazzaro Palazzi. He lives and works in Milan.
