Gianni Politi’s practice is rooted in a process of material reuse in which calculated planning and chance coexist. Painted canvases are fragmented, cut apart, and reassembled into new abstract compositions, creating a dialogue between archive and image, personal memory and collective history. Alongside this abstract work, an ongoing cycle of portraits of the artist’s father—initiated in 2012 as a perpetual remake of Gaetano Gandolfi’s Study for a Bearded Man (1770)—serves as the conceptual and emotional centre of his research. His work occasionally extends into sculpture through bronze reliefs that translate painterly concerns into spatial form. He studied philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome and has exhibited internationally, including at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome and the Fondazione Pescheria – Centro Arti Visive in Pesaro. He lives and works in Rome.
