Nathalie Du Pasquier is one of the most distinctive figures in late twentieth-century European art and design. A self-taught artist, she arrived in Milan in 1979 after extensive travels through Africa, Australia, and India. In 1981, she became a founding member of the Memphis Group alongside Ettore Sottsass, designing textiles, carpets, laminates, and objects that helped redefine the vocabulary of postmodern design. Since 1987, painting has become her primary activity, focusing on still lifes built around wooden constructions she creates herself, in which the distinction between artwork and display device dissolves into a vision of the world as an open catalogue of forms to be endlessly transformed. Her solo exhibitions include presentations at Pace Gallery, Seoul; Anton Kern Gallery, New York; Kunsthalle Wien; Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig; and Apalazzo Gallery, Brescia. She lives and works in Milan.
