Salvatore Arancio’s practice investigates the potential of images through ceramics, printmaking, collage, animation, and video, bringing together the natural and the artificial, the mineral and the vegetal, the scientific and the mythological in a kind of atlas of visual confusion. Every aspect of his work activates a dualism between essence and representation, in which hybrid and ambiguous figures reflect the richness and complexity of contemporary life. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 2017. His work has been exhibited at Whitechapel Gallery, London (2018); Hayward Gallery, London (2022); MO.CO., Montpellier (2022); MAXXI L’Aquila (2021); Museo Novecento, Florence (2019); Kunsthalle Winterthur (2016); and Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2013). In 2009, he won the New York Prize, which included a residency at Columbia University. He studied Photography at the Royal College of Art in London and lives between Nice and London.
