Emiliano Maggi’s research explores the formation and disintegration of the self through a formal universe that expands figurative representation into abstract territories beyond recognisability. Ceramics is his preferred medium—animated by almost pearlescent pastel colours and glossy finishes that heighten the sensuality of forms—but his practice also encompasses performance, painting, music, dance, and sound composition. Psychedelic scenarios intertwine with mythological symbolism, rural iconography, 1970s horror, and erotic literature in a hybrid and constantly shifting aesthetic landscape. His musical project Estasy runs alongside his visual work. His exhibitions include presentations at Galleria Lorcan O’Neill, Rome; the American Academy in Rome; MONA Museum, Tasmania; Istituto Svizzero di Roma; MuseumsQuartier, Vienna; MAXXI Rome; MACRO Rome; and Museo Novecento, Florence. He lives and works in Rome.
