Nazafarin Lotfi’s multidisciplinary practice combines drawing, painting, sculpture, and community organising to create both physical and imaginative space, exploring relationships between body, identity, architecture, and landscape through subtle forms, absences, and ambiguous materialities. Her research is rooted in her experience of growing up in post-revolutionary Iran and her journey as an immigrant in the United States. Gardening and cartography function as recurring conceptual devices within her work. Institutions that have presented her work include Artpace, San Antonio; Phoenix Art Museum; Tucson Museum of Art; Elmhurst Museum of Art; Illinois State University Galleries; and MOCA Tucson. She received the Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence in 2023 and support from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Andy Warhol Foundation, and the City of Chicago. She earned her degree from the University of Tehran in 2007 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011. She lives and works in Chicago.
